En periodo de elecciones, siempre empezamos a decir lo mismo, que queremos cambios, pero el círculo sigue siendo el mismo: promesas, contratos, convenios, recursos, acuerdos. Lo que me lleva a la conclusión que la mayoría de las veces queremos cambios que beneficien solo nuestros intereses personales, profesionales y familiares. Si bien no está mal pensar en nuestro futuro, en el de nuestros hijos y de quienes tenemos más cerca, lo que necesitamos como sociedad no es eso. En mi opinión, necesitamos más seres humanos capaces de comprendernos como colectivo.

Paola Rada, solo por dar un ejemplo de alguien que conozco hace 24 años y de quien puedo hablar con plena seguridad, es ese tipo de seres humanos. No solo por tener estudios y experiencia, sino por dar el alma en todo lo que hace, y no por ella, por otras y otros. Desde que empezó a trabajar como abogada ha asesorado y representado muchos casos pro bono. Siempre recuerdo su primer caso, y sé que son esos casos los que más satisfacción le han brindado. Además, su solidaridad y sororidad la han llevado a trabajar por niños, niñas y mujeres, sin nada a cambio. Y como ella misma nos ha enseñado, una buena abogada o abogado es aquella capaz de ser sensible ante las injusticias.

Para luego darse cuenta que todos nuestros problemas están conectados, porque nuestra isla depende intrínsecamente de la administración pública. Cuando acudimos a espacios públicos, la única solución que se nos viene a la mente para todos los problemas, es la “voluntad política”, los contratos, los convenios y demás. A pesar de esa “mala” costumbre, con ella empezamos a ejercer nuestros derechos como ciudadanas y ciudadanos, hacer control social a lo que es nuestro. Así, empezamos Heredad. Desde ahí, ha liderado una agenda social de transparencia y anticorrupción que es independiente a todo, a lo que somos, a nuestras profesiones, a nuestras familias, a todo. El único objetivo es saber qué está pasando y tratar de romper ese círculo de cuestionamiento silencioso en el que estamos. De esta manera, la conocimos como una veedora ciudadana.

Sin embargo, como candidata a la Asamblea Departamental, encuentra la oportunidad de llevar esas agendas de transparencia, anticorrupción, derechos humanos y desarrollo social a un espacio con la capacidad jurídica y política para generar esos cambios que necesitamos, capacidad que hace falta en los esfuerzos sociales y en el ejercicio de la ciudadanía. Es por ello que, si empezamos a pensarnos en colectivo, podríamos elegir a seres humanos que cambien esa cultura del silencio y que liberen las tensiones sociales que hemos generado entre los y las ciudadanas y la administración pública

Sí, la conozco bien, he aprendido de ella con el ejemplo, me apropié de su fortaleza, generosidad y necesidad de transitar por la vida con curiosidad, creatividad y voluntad. Por ello, sin lugar a dudas, sé que al votar por Paola Rada, estaremos escogiendo a la persona indicada para liderar la transformación política y social que anhelamos Todas y Todos.

A subjective description of Paola Rada

In San Andrés we are used to the silence. It has been a few leaders who question what is happening around them, but later they have been silenced one way or another. It is a constant circle, in which all of us know what is going on, but anyone says anything. However, in the past few years, our Island is submerged in what I would call chaos.

For elections season, we usually say the same, that we want changes, but the circle is being the same: promises, contracts, agreements, public resources. Given this, I conclude that most of the time we want changes for our own personal, professional and family interests. Even though it is not bad to think in our future, the future of our children or the future of our beloved ones, that is not what we need as a society. In my opinion, we need more human beings capable of comprehending us as a collectivity.

Paola Rada, just to give an example of someone that I have known for 24 years and about who I can speak with certainty, is that kind of human being. Not only for having studies and experience, but also for giving the soul in everything she does, and not for her, but for others. Since she began working as a lawyer, she has advocated in a lot of pro bono cases. I am always going to remember her first case, and I am sure that those are the cases that bring more satisfaction to her. Also, her solidarity and sorority have let her to work for children and women, with nothing in return. And as she has taught us, a good lawyer is one capable of being sensitive to injustice.

Thus, she realized that all of our problems are connected because our Island deeply depends on public administration. When we participate in public events and meetings, the only answer to those problems that we can think about is “political will”, contracts, agreements and so on. Despite this “bad habit”, we started to exercise our rights with her, doing citizen oversight to our resources in the public administration. In this way, we founded Heredad. From which, she has work in transparency and anti-corruption agendas. This agenda has been independent of everything, of what we are, of our professions, of our families, everything. The only goal is to know what is happening and try to break the circle of “silence questioning” that we have created. As a result, we know her as a ‘veedora ciudadana’.

However, as a candidate for the Assembly, she finds an opportunity to take the transparency, anti-corruption, human rights and social development agendas to a public and political space. This space has the legal and political strength to make the changes that we need, a strength that we do not have in the social and citizen movement. In fact, if we start to think in ourselves as a collectivity, we will be able to elect human being that changes our silence culture and release the tensions that we have built between citizens and the public administration.

I know her and I have learned from her, I took that strength, unselfishness, and need for curiosity, creativity, and will. Indeed, I know that voting for Paola Rada, we will be electing a right human being for our political and social transformation.
