Edmonton, AB – Edmonton Capitals centre fielder Steve Brown was selected as the North American League’s player of the week today thanks to a red-hot first seven days with the team.

Brown, a native of San Andrés Island, Columbia, joined the Caps on Sunday, June 12, after immigration delays forced him to miss the first two weeks off the season. He hasn’t missed a beat since his arrival, though, as he has a .450 batting average with four home runs and 11 RBI through five games.

About half of Brown’s offensive production thus far came during last Wednesday’s 20-8 destruction of the Chico Outlaws, as he hit two home runs, one of which was a grand slam, and went 4-for-4 with five RBI and five runs scored. The 25-year-old’s speed and defensive prowess have also made him the anchor for the Caps’ outfield.

The Caps (13-9) are currently three games into a seven-game series in Yuma against Jose Canseco and the Scorpions (7-14), with their second double-header in as many days scheduled for tonight.

The teams then head north back to Edmonton on Thursday to open a four-game series at TELUS Field. The series opener is another Thirsty Thursday presented by Hudsons Canadian Tap House and 100.3 The Bear, featuring $3 beer.

The upcoming home series also includes another edition of Saturday Night Movies presented by 96.3 Capital FM and Herbers Autobody & Repair, featuring a Simpsons marathon starting with “Homer At The Bat,” which includes Canseco, the Scorpions’ player-manager.
